Weekly News June 10th

Mayo’s Mens Shed
As part of Men s Health Week 2017 (12th to 18th June) the Health and Wellbeing department within HSE have teamed up with Mayo Men s Sheds to provide a free NCT for all men in the community. The Charlestown event will take place on Friday June 16th at the CBD Complex, old Swinford Road, from 10 am to 1 p m.  A wide variety of organisations and agencies will be present to provide men with relevant information and interactive tools to encourage them to engage in positive behaviours in relation to their health and overall wellbeing. The Irish Heart Foundation will also be present to conduct health screening; this is free of charge to all men on the day. A large attendance is expected from the community

The AGM of Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce and Community Association took place last week, with a good attendance of members and Community Groups.Outgoing President, Louise Kilbane reported on the last 2 years of her Presidency as being a term of great activity. Projects undertaken included the development of the Enterprise Centre, An Chroí, and its continued occupation. Swift Lane Walkway was also part of the recent developments while the newly revamped playground and Astro Turf pitches were also done in that period by different groups and sub committees. As a mark of acknowledgement for the work done in recent years by the Chamber, we received a Pride of Place Award which was presented in Belfast last November.  Incoming President, Geraldine Brennan has now taken over the Presidential reigns and her track record for hard work and commitment is well known. In her acceptance speech in receiving her Chain of Office, Geraldine appealed for more help from the Businesses and wider Community to help the town grow and prosper. Good community groups help everybody and leads to better quality lives for young and old.  Other Committee members appointed at the AGM include: Secretary: Louise Kilbane, Treasurer: Dwayne Curran, PRO: Roger McCarrick.
