Old Fair Day Festival
The 34th Tubbercurry Old Fair Day Festival is now almost upon us, and the hard working Festival Committee are working diligently to put everything in place for the various events. Monday & Tuesday have other activities leading up to the Big Old Fair Day on Wednesday 14th August. This Old Fair Day brings livestock & craft as never seen before – ……. Glass Blowing, Pottery, Ironmongery, Thatching, Bread making, Woodturning, Hundreds of exhibitors & vendors, roadshows, antiques. Ocean FM are broadcasting live from Tubbercurry and the afternoon has live music on stage from 12 noon with Robert Mizzell & Band. Come into Tubbercurry for the day and bring your visitors for a fun filled day out.
Annual BBQ St George’s Church annual BBQ will be held in the church grounds Sligo Rd, Tubbercurry, on Sunday 18th August at 1pm. Adults: €12, Children €6 (BBQ, Dessert & Glass of Wine). All welcome.
New Book A new local history book ‘Kilmactigue Parish History & Memories ‘ was recently released and is a must read for all local historians and household of the South Sligo Region. Compiled by locals Padraig Maye, Daniel Jones & Marie Fleming, it is an excellent production of stories, photos and write ups on many places and characters. It concentrates mainly on areas around Aclare, Kilmactigue, Tourlestrane, Benada and Lough Talt and is available for sale at €20 in local shops. This is Volume 1, of what could and hopefully will be a series for years into the future.
Mid West Radio 30th Anniversary Celebrations Mid West Radio recently celebrated 30th years in business and Tubbercurry man Jackie Coogan stole the show amongst big singing stars Mike Denver, Nathan Carter etc. He sang Hucklebuck (Brendan Boyers), Proud Mary, Rock & Roll. He received a standing ovation from guests, patrons and fellow artists. Jackie has always been a proud Tubbercurry man and has contributed enormously over the last 50 years to community life in Tubbercurry and South Sligo. Well done Jackie.
Social Night in Aid of Jean Gallagher’s VolunterNurture Africa in Uganda A Social dance in aid of Uganda will take place in The May Queen Lounge Tubbercurry on Friday 16th August at 10pm. Music by Carmel McLoughlin. Cover Charge optional. All proceeds from this event in aid of Jean Gallagher’s Volunteer work with Nurture Africa in Uganda.
