North Connaught College, Tubbercurry – OPEN EVENING  are hosting its Open Evening on this Thursday 7th March from 3-6pm for a range of PLC courses. They are delighted to offer from September a new course in Equine Studies and Horsemanship. Teachers, Guidance Counsellor, Student Support Tutor and current students will be available to deal with any queries or questions that you may have. Western Drama Festival – The Western Drama Festival 2019 is now in full swing and runs up to the 9th March nightly at 8pm in St. Brigid’s Hall, Tubbercurry.  There is a great mix of plays included in this year’s line up, with lots of drama and comedy over the week.  A full list of the plays can be found by logging on to http://www.westerndramafestival.com/line-up-full-length-march-2019   The Adjudicator for this years Festival is the inspirational Anna Walker, who comes with a great wealth of experience, enthusiasm and expertise.   Tickets for the 2019 Western Drama Festival can be purchased through the Tubbercurry Tourist Office on Humbert Street, or phone 087-0936616 , Opening hours: Mon – Thur 10am – 5pm and Fri 10am – 4.30pm.  Tickets can also be purchased at St. Brigid’s Hall Theatre Box Office during the festival.  For out-of-hours enquiries, please call 087-7078210.

Phoenix Players   Rehearsals are now in full swing for the Phoenix Players‘ forthcoming production of ‘The Sound of Music’ to be staged on 29th, 30th and 31st March and 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th April.  Production Director Tom Walsh has assembled a cast of eighty ranging in ages from eight to eighty from all over South Sligo!  Tickets will go on sale at the end of the month so watch this space.  This will be a light hearted family show that will bring huge enjoyment to cast and audience.

Sligo Sport & Recreation Partnership : are running an 8 week  “Walk to Run Programme”  in Tubbercurry – A fun and supportive way to your first 5k.   Starting on Thursday 7th March from  7.30pm – 8.30pm  at Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre.  Registration takes place at 7pm before walk starts.  Fee is €20.  For more information phone 071 9161511.  Sligo Sport & Recreation Partnership: are running a 6 week Indoor Rowing Fitness Programme for men over 35 years on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm and 8-9pm.  Registration takes place with a “Come and Try Evening” on Tuesday 12th March at 8pm in St. Brigid’s Hall.  Cost €20.  Classes limited to 15 people and places will be given on a first come first served basis on registration evening.  For more information contact Bernie Reidy on 087-9726341.

Aidan Brennan, Ballymote & Mullinabreena  The recent sudden death occurred of Aidan Brennan late of Stonepark, Ballymote.  Aged 59, Aidan was a native of Mullinabreena, Chaffpool, just a few miles outside Tubbercurry and was son of the late Jim & Sarah.  Aidan attended Doocastle Primary School and the Vocational School in Tubbercurry in the early /mid seventies.  On completing his education Aidan went into the construction business, specialising in driving JCB and large machines and worked for many years with local builders & developers including Paddy McVann and various developers in and around Sligo.  He was highly regarded by his work colleagues as and excellent driver and worker.    Aidans remains reposed at his residence in Stonepark prior to removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballymote.  Burial took place in St. Columba’s Cemetary, Ballymote.  Predeceased by his parents and brothers Robert and Gabriel as well as by his son Keith, he is survived by his wife Ann, children Pamela, Robert, Gerard, Angela & Niall, grandchildren, in-laws, brother John (Mullinabreena) Kathleen (Donegal), Noreen Donoghue (Doocastle) and Ann (Sligo)  as well as nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends, all to whom sympathy is extended.  May he rest in peace.
