Rathscanlon Forest Walk
Work is progressing well on the extension to the Forest Walk at Rathscanlon and it is hoped to have the extension opened for use within a few weeks. This is a great Community Project that will enhance the lives of all who use it and is an invaluable addition to the Community facilities of the entire South Sligo population. A sincere thank you is extended to the many people involved in its conception and to the bog cutters of Rathscanlon and Rhue bogs for their co-operation. Funding was obtained for the works but there is a financial shortfall which will have to be raised locally and more details of this fundraiser will follow shortly. The organisers in Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce & Community Association are confident the wider community will rise to the challenge and donate generously.
Sligo GAA– Excitement is mounting throughout South Sligo as the County Semi-finals of the Senior Mens Championship takes place next Sunday. Three clubs from South Sligo are playing with reigning champions of the last 2 years Tourlestrane playing Coolera/Strandhill in one semi final. In the other semi-final to be played in Curry, Tubbercurry take on Mullinabreena /Coolaney in what is an eagerly anticipated game. Coolaney /Mullinabreena is a young up and coming team that have been threatening to make the big break through over the last few years. Tubbercurry last won the Senior title in 2014 and lead the role of honour, having won more senior titles than any other club in the county. However on next Sunday history counts for nothing and it will be down to the team who wants to win the most. Most of the young men on both teams went to school together in St. Attractas over the last decade and know each other well, having won Connacht and even all Ireland titles together. An intriguing battle is promised in what should be a very exciting game. Supporters from both clubs are asked and encouraged to attend.
