Weekly News - Sept. 7th

Phoenix Players –  Anyone interested in participating in the Phoenix Players‘ forthcoming production of The Sound of Music under the directorship of Tom Walsh is invited to come along to an open evening in St Brigid’s Hall on Thursday 13th September at 8:30pm.  Actors, singers, dancers and backstage crew are needed.  If you would like to be involved in any way, backstage, front stage or front of house come along to the open evening on the 13th September.     Auditions for children’s parts will be held at a later date

Drimina N.S. will be having a 5 KM Run/Walk on Sunday 30th September. Registration 10am – 11.30 race at 12 sharp.  Entrance fee €20 for a family, €10 for adults and €5 for under 18s. Refreshments served in the school hall afterwards.

Tubbercurry Active Retirement Group The local Active Retirement Association is now resuming activities and have organised a programme to suit all tastes for the coming months.  First Meeting of this term will be held in the local Health Centre at 8 pm on Tuesday, September 18th but, in the previous week, our bowling team will be in action at the All Ireland AR Bowling Championships in Castlebar.  Our programme for this term includes Card Games, Health Talks, Quizzes, Crafts, Book Club, Irish Hour, Outings to Theatre/Cinema and our popular 3-day trip to Dublin and surroundings (now fully booked). Our Exercise sessions of Bowling, Curling, Vital Movement to Music (new this year)and Physical Exercises continue weekly in Teach Laighne.  New members are very welcome. Make friends and be refreshed and inspired by the countrywide Active Retired Movement.

Volunteers Wanted – SVDP – Would you have any spare time? Have you an interest in retailing? We are currently looking for volunteers to work in St. Vincent de Paul Shop in Tubbercurry for a few hours weekly.  If interested or have any queries contact Enda at 087-2668605.

COFFEE MORNING FOR HOSPICE – Mayo Roscommon Hospice is appealing for individuals, companies, groups, schools, coffee shops etc to host a coffee morning/evening on their behalf on ‘National Coffee morning for Hospice’ Thursday 20th September or any date that suits. Coffee and promotional provided free of charge.  The building of the 14 Bed Hospice in Castlebar is well underway and it is hoped it will be completed early next year followed by the construction of the 8 Bed Unit in Roscommon. The capital cost of both projects is approx. €15 million, which is entirely coming from fundraised income.  With your support and through events such as coffee morning, the Foundation will continue to ensure that patients with life limiting illnesses from Mayo and Roscommon have the best possible facilities available when they need it. Tubbercurry FRC
Taking Control Workshop –If something unexpected has happened, you are finding it tough to know where to go next or you need new ways to face the challenges of life then this is the course for you. This one day interactive workshop is delivered by Shine and covers four modules; Self Esteem and Positivity, Coping Skills, Changing how we think and Being Resilient and Taking Control. This workshop is free but booking is essential. The workshop will take place Tuesday 25th September from 10.00am-1.00pm. All are welcome. English Classes September 2018 –A registration morning for our weekly conversational English classes will take place on Friday 14th September from 10.00-11.00am.  The classes run every Friday morning from 10.00am- 12.00 and will start Friday 21st September.  Inquiries to Colleen on 0719186926.  The ETB will also be running English Classes (ESOL) twice a week and an assessment day for these classes will take place in the FRC on Tuesday 11th September between 10.00am-1.00pm. Parent & Toddler Group- This group meets every Monday from 10.30am. All parents/ guardians/ grandparent babies and toddlers are welcome. There are plenty of activities for the little one and the all-important cup of tea for the adults. Inquiries welcome to 0719186926.

FRC Counselling Service – Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre provides an adult bereavement and relationship Counselling service. This service is open to the public and you do not need a referral. We have a fully qualified and accredited therapist available for appointments. At times a waiting list applies but we try to keep this as short as possible.
