New Christmas Lights Tubbercurry

Tubbercurry will have a bright Christmas for everybody with the new Lights in town.  To help pay for the New Lights donations can be made in various ways – Donate on our Go Fund Me Page at www.gofundme.com/illuminate-south-sligo or cheque or cash contributions can be made to any of the committee members, or to Tubbercurry Tourist Office.  For more details check out our Facebook page Illuminate South Sligo.

Memorial Mass

Join us for the first Annual Mass for deceased staff and pupils of Benada Abbey, St Attracta’s and the Marist Convent Schools on Saturday 18 January 2020 at 8.30pm in Tourlestrane Church. Tubbercurry ’97 Part l  D.V.D.

In 1997 as part of the “Tubbercurry 600” Celebrations a special Video Project was commissioned recording various aspects of Life in Tubbercurry over the year 1997.  Now 22 years later, the First Part of a Trilogy of D.V.D.’s is available – Tubbercurry 1997 Part I.  It features a series of short Interviews with a number of business people of the town, describing their business, the changes they have seen over the years and their outlook for the future as they say it at that time.  Costing €15 each they are now on Sale in the following outlets: Murphy’s Spar Supermarket, John Gillespie Sportswear, K & B Hardware, Daybreak, Roger McCarrick, Auctioneers, Margaret Kennedy & Brennan’s Bar, Cloonacool

Proceeds are in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

Cloonacool Players

Cloonacool Players wish all their fans, families and friends a Happy Christmas

and look forward to entertaining everyone in the New Year – with the hilarious 3-act comedy Don’t Tell the Wife  in Cloonacool Community Centre, St Valentine’s weekend February 14th to 16th.   Watch this space for further details. Happy Christmas and a rib-tickling New Year.

Congratulations

Congratulations are extended to Majella Armstrong (nee McGinley) who was recently promoted to Garda Superintendent , and is  based in the Phoenix Park Dublin.  Majella is daughter of Eamon and Kathleen McGinley of Oughambaun Tubbercurry. Her dad Eamon was Garda Sergeant in Tubbercurry during the 1980s and 90s and Majella obviously developed her interest from his encouragement.

Tubbercurry Active Retirement Association

Our latest book in The Way That It Was series, ie No IV, is selling well and we are very pleased to hear that so many people are enjoying its historic stories and varied articles. The book, retailing at €15, will be widely available at various local outlets for the Christmas market.

A fantastic array of 5 local books was launched in South Sligo over the last few months and any of them would make ideal Christmas Gifts over the next few weeks.  The Books include:

Break In’s

A number of break in’s have occurred in the Tubbercurry area over the last few weeks and householders are advised to be vigilant in the run up to Christmas when extra money may be lying around houses.  The public are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to the Gardai and Neighbourhood Watch .

Millennium DVD
