includes Tubbercurry forest walk
Road works are due to commence on Mountain Road, Tubbercurry on Monday 10th February and will continue for approx 5 weeks. The necessary works to upgrade water mains along Mountain Road will necessitate the closure of lower Mountain Road fully for 2 weeks between Mickey Macs Pub and the Family Resource Centre. This is the area where work will commence and will mean a complete closure of this section of Mountain Road for the first 2 weeks due to the narrow nature of this road section.
For the last 2/3 weeks, works will take place between the Family Resource Centre and up to Bailey’s Nursing Home. Traffic diversions will be in place for the duration of the works and it will certainly be inconvenient for residents and businesses of Mountain Road, but it is a necessary inconvenience.
People coming to town from Moylough/Doocastle area are advised to come to town via the Ballymote road and car users on Mountain Road will have to think about their journeys and parking locations. More details next week.
Paddy McVeigh, Tourlestrane
The recent peaceful death occurred of Paddy McVeigh, late of Annagh, Tourlestrane at his home. In his late ‘80’s, Paddy was an active man all his life and had battled illness bravely and with dignity in recent months. A native of Annagh, living along the banks of the Moy River, Paddy was a good general tradesman who also worked in Gowna Wood Industries in Collooney in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s when that factory was a thriving enterprise. Later in his life before retirement he worked for nearly two decades as a Porter in Allied Irish Bank in Tubbercurry, and was always popular with bank staff and clients. He also farmed his holding in Annagh and the farm hedges, buildings and house were always kept immaculately.
Paddy’s remains reposed at his home and at the Coen funeral home where many hundred of people called to pay their respect to a very popular gentleman. He is survived by his devoted wife Ethel, sons David, Thomas, Raymond, Noel and Patsy, daughters Mary and Jacqueline, his sister Brigid, and wide selection of friends and relations, all to whom sympathy is extended. May his gently soul rest in peace.
